Clostridium difficile control and disinfection

Clostridium difficile control and disinfection

One of the worst offenders is a bacterium called Clostridium difficile (C. difficile, or C. diff). As the bacteria overgrow they release toxins that attack the lining of the intestines, causing a condition called Clostridium difficile colitis.

Though relatively rare compared to other intestinal bacteria, C. diff is one of the most important causes of infectious diarrhea in US and also in many places in the world.

Symptoms of C. diff

C. difficile infection can range from mild to life-threatening. Symptoms of mild cases include watery diarrhea, three or more times a day for several days, with abdominal pain or tenderness.

Symptoms of more severe C. diff infection include:

Watery diarrhea, up to 15 times each day

- Severe abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite
- Fever

Blood or pus in the stool

- Weight loss

In some cases, C. diff infection can lead to a hole in the intestines, which can be fatal if not treated immediately.

C. diff can be diagnosed by stool specimens tested for the toxins. In some cases, a colonoscopy may be needed for diagnosis and more tests ordered.

Disinfection of C. diff Infection

Once a person has C. diff infection, the infection can spread to others. C. diff spores are shed in the feces and can live on dry surfaces for a long time. A person who touches one of those surfaces can pick up the infection.

The disinfection of hands and gloves timely using our powerful Hand disinfectant DE-ZAL will protect both Doctors and patient.

Bleach wipes containing Purity 4 disinfectant have been shown to kill the spores and prevent transmission between patients. Installing lidded toilets and closing the lid prior to flushing and also spraying the Toilet with Purity4 timely and between each user will avoid the risk of contamination.

Those who have CDIs should be in rooms with other people with CDIs or by themselves when in hospital.

The Important processes to disinfect hospitals against C. difficile spores and, in fact, may promote spore formation, however, are the fumigation technique with Miller disinfectant are used to sterilize a patient room post discharge have been shown to reduce infection rates and to reduce risk of infection to subsequent patients.

Advantages of Using Miller Disinfectant as Fogging System

The Room fogging System with Miller  is promoted to be the most cost effective method for disinfection of all the exposed surfaces within a room with less labor.

The Room fogging System with Miller reaches surfaces that sprays & wipes can't; not just the primary or "high-touch" surfaces but also every exposed surface within a room, which reduces the risk of cross-contamination associated with using a rag, wipe or sponge.

The Room fogging System with Miller is safe to use around sensitive electronic equipment.

disinfection of hospital linen with Peroxy plus:

All linen handled as if contaminated with blood or body fluids (Standard Precautions)  Laundry equipment must be maintained by using Peroxy plus Disinfectant to prevent Clostridium difficile contamination

You CANNOT achieve disinfection or sterilization without advanced pre-cleaning then the disinfection with Peroxy plus is effective to control the infection of linen with Clostridium difficile even in Spore form.
